Prayers for Sudan

Prayers for Sudan

Prayers for Sudan

First Arabic Presbyterian Church and the Sudanese Support Team ask for your prayers as the atrocities of war continue in Sudan. While the situation in Sudan does not often make the headlines in the U.S.A., we are following recent developments:

  • The Sudanese Armed Forces report that acts of genocide, murder, rape, theft, forceable displacement and vandalism are being perpetrated by the Rapid Support Forces, a paramilitary group in Sudan.
  • As fighting intensified in western Sudan, Doctors Without Borders had to suspend its relief operations in the Zamzam Refugee Camp, ending life-saving humanitarian aid to thousands of displaced people.
  • The Sudanese are feeling the impact of the reductions in foreign aid by the U.S.A. In South Sudan, the International Rescue Committee closed a project providing access to quality health care and nutrition services to more than 115,000 people. In Sudan, 90 communal kitchens have been closed in Khartoum (the capital city), leaving more than half a million people without consistent access to food.

Our Sudanese brothers and Sisters in Christ at First Arabic Presbyterian Church suffer, too, over deep concern for their family members and friends back home. The support from the Presbytery – both through prayer and financial gifts – is truly appreciated.

At the last Presbytery meeting on February 22, representatives from First Arabic Church, along with folks from the Sudanese Support Team, were invited to share their history, stories, joys and concerns. If you missed this presentation, here is a link to the video recording.

Mission Trip to Korea

The Presbyterian Peace Network for Korea (PPNK) invites you on a mission trip to South Korea from October 21 to October 30, 2025. The registration period is open now through April 30.

This trip is open to Presbyterians and others who are interested in Korea and are concerned about the prospects for peace there and around the world. The participants will build connections with peacemakers in the Presbyterian faith as well as with other churches and groups in South Korea. The journey is not primarily for Korean-Americans, but for people in our presbytery who want to promote peace.

PPNK is a mission network related to the PCUSA, whose primary mission is to educate and advocate for peace on the Korean peninsula. This trip intends to involve a broader group of Presbyterians in this mission.

Details and registration information can be found linked below. Questions should be directed to Ministry & Mission Executive, Amgad Beblawi.

Endings & New Beginnings: A Compassionate Conversation on Church Closure

Endings & New Beginnings: A Compassionate Conversation on Church Closure

Endings & New Beginnings: A Compassionate Conversation on Church Closure

It can be very difficult to face the possibility that a beloved church might be nearing the end of its journey. It’s important to reflect on the signs that may indicate that a church is ready to close down, whether it’s a lack of resources, a dwindling congregation, or a shift in the needs of the people. It’s not an easy thing to consider, but acknowledging these signs with love and grace can help guide the conversation with care and understanding to know when to transition and how to honor its legacy.

Join Rev. Annika Lister Stroope, Stated Clerk, for a thoughtful and informative workshop on navigating the challenging decision of church closure. This workshop will be offered twice via Zoom: on Saturday, March 29 at 10 AM and again on Friday, April 4 at 10 AM.  Annika will guide you through a range of possibilities that include but are not limited to, selling property and full dissolution, as well as offering alternative paths for the future of a congregation. This is an opportunity to explore compassionate options and gain valuable insight during an important time in your church’s lifecycle.

Presbyterian Advocacy Hour

Presbyterian Advocacy Hour

Presbyterian Advocacy Hour

Monthly Advocacy Hour ~ Fourth Wednesdays

Join us for a new monthly series – fourth Wednesday each month – hosted by the Presbyterian Church (USA). As Christians, we are called to act in the face of suffering, injustice and strife – to be repairers of the breach. The fuel behind such action is a mixture of faith, hope, discernment, spiritual nourishment, and community.

Presbyterian Advocacy Hour will bring together committed people of faith each month to fuel up with information on the most pressing issues. Church members, lay leaders, pastors, mid-council staff, all Presbyterians and friends are welcome! Get nourishment for your spirit, essential connections and resources, relationship building, and direction for how to stay in righteous movement while being your best self.

After the first overview session in February, each month we’ll dive deeply into one area of concern and provide the knowledge you need to take effective and focused action. The hour will start with spiritual grounding and then move to in-depth analysis of key issues. There will be an additional optional 30 minutes for time to network, movement-building, community-building and feedback on helping to shape what you need from these monthly advocacy hours. There is a barrage of pressing issues we might react to, but we contribute most faithfully with quality action and a loving presence. Let’s resource each other and do church in a world that needs every single one of us!

Monthly Advocacy Hour ~ Fourth Wednesdays
First session will be on Wednesday, February 26, 9am (PST), 10am (MST), 11am (CST), 12pm (eastern)
